The beginning of the story,
Homer's Odyssey, translated into English by Tony Kline, talks about how the Cyclops are rugged lawless creatures but when the men actually land on the island of the Cyclops they want to go see if it is actually true. A good alternate story could be the back story of the Cyclops.
I thought it was interesting that Circe turned all the men who had come into her house into pigs and then later when all the men where reunited she fed them meat... I wonder if that was from previous men that were drawn into her home.
